One of the most famous monuments of Nikko, located on the slope of the mountain, the Temple Complex of Tosegu was created as a memorial to the commander and statesman Segun Ieyas Tokugawa in 1636–1647. It includes twenty -two buildings – Shinto and Buddhist shrines. A majestic staircase led to the monuments of Tosega. It was portrayed by the artist in the painting “Entrance to the temple of Nikko”. The point of view from below reflects the idea embedded in the system of the buildings of the complex – to create the impression of take -off into the sky.
