The state of safety before restoration:

The picture came without a subframe from which it was carelessly cut on the front side, as a result of which the author’s format was broken. All edges are uneven, the left side and upper corner were most affected (the size of the loss of the author’s canvas with painting – 6.5 x 30 cm – in the form of an uneven cone). Incorrect storage and fixation of the portrait to the base of a smaller size contributed to the formation of strong rigid breaks around the perimeter and numerous losses of a colorful layer. In addition, the front side of the picture was once under the Passpart – a rectangle is visible, repeatedly covered with darkened varnish, not affecting the hidden edges.

Technical and technological studies have shown that the author of the image of the hair, collar, background, drawing of wallpaper were specified three times three times.

Complex of the events:

As a result of the measures, painting was strengthened, fractures and deformations were eliminated, the author’s canvas was stabilized. In the places of loss of the author’s base along the edges, inserts from the canvas with the corresponding original weaving threads are brought up. The picture is duplicated on a new canvas and stretched on a new subframe. The size of the subframe is determined at a meeting of the restoration council of the timing, since the canvas was once curled. The rectangularity of the angles is restored. The uneven layer of varnish is specified and leveled. Small tinting on loss and reconstructive tinting on inserts along the perimeter of the picture were made. Painting is covered with restoration dammar varnish.

As a result, the integrity and rectangularity of the base, painting is restored, the author’s bright color is returned.
