The artist is Vereshchagin
In 1887-1888, Vereshchagin made a trip to the cities of Russia. He visited Yaroslavl, Rostov, Kostroma. The artist studied Old Russian architecture, collected ancient household items. Observing the unhurried course of the life of provincial cities, Vereshchagin was especially interested in the fate of the people whom he met during the journey.
